Sahrudya-Tech

The environment management division of Welfare Services Ernakulam

Sahrudaya Tech promotes improved environment and healthy living conditions through the propagation of waste management systems and practices. Construction of bio-gas plants, rainwater harvesting tanks, smokeless improved ovens, composting systems, solar water heaters and on-grid, off-grid systems, modern agricultural techniques like wick irrigation, poly house, grow bags and agricultural livelihood programs like poultry farming, biofloc fish culture are the key areas of this division. It is a government recognized NGO working in the sector for the last 35 years.

  • Working with Partners & communities for a Sustainable World
  • Promoting Solutions for Protecting Environment
  • Educate, Engage and Empower people in Environment Management

The environment management and rural technology promotion activities of the division began under its mother organization – Welfare Services Ernakulam, in the year 1985 onwards. The major activities undertaken by the organization during the early period included construction of biogas plants, solid waste management programs through composting and later rainwater harvesting systems, terra-cotta based vermin composting etc. As the activities of the department enhanced and the volume of work undertaken yearly increased, setting up of a separate division was envisaged. It is in the year 2016 Sahrudaya Tech was registered as a Trust (111/IV/2016).

Accreditation

The division is accredited by different agencies like Agriculture Department, ANERT, Suchitwa Mission, Haritha Kerala Mission and a partner for implementing environment development programs of many Departments, LSGs etc. It is also an approved Haritha Sahaya Sthapanam of Govt. of Kerala.

Awards

Received award instituted by St. Stephan’s College, Uzhavoor in the name of Paristhithi Mitra Award.

Biogas Plant Construction

Welfare Services Ernakulam is a well-known service provider in the waste management sector for the last three and a half decades. The division under WSE is known as Sahrudaya Tech. It undertakes construction of biogas plants for individual clients to institutions, Grama Panchayaths, companies, hotels and other business firms for the management of their wastes and other degradable garbage. WSE has a rich experience in constructing different models of Biogas plants like fixed dome model, floating drum model and fibre made portable models. Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste, human or animal excreta and food waste. It is a renewable energy source and in many cases exerts a very small carbon footprint.

Portable Bio Gas Plants

Portable Biogas plants are used for waste management in residential and institutional waste Portable Biogas plants are compact and capable of treating the bio degradable waste generated. These plants are ready for installation and able to replace from one place to another according to the requirements of the beneficiaries. We have a manufacturing unit for Fibre Portable biogas plants.

  • There are fixed, floating type and portable models of biogas plants
  • Sahrudaya Tech is undertakes construction of small to large size biogas plants
  • It has constructed over 33,000 biogas plants during the 35 years
  • Approved by MNRE Govt. of India, Suchitwa Mission, Haritha Kerala Mission, Agriculture Department and ANERT.
  • Constructed various type plants in all districts of Kerala, and in the states of Assam, U.P., Goa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat.
Solar Systems

Direct energy from the sun can be used either as photovoltaic energy, where light is converted directly into electricity, or as thermal energy, where heat from the sun can be used to heat water. Solar energy is a clean, renewable source of energy which, once installed, does not face some of the issues with access, availability and pollution that are experienced with fuels such as wood and coal. Solar energy is free, and Photovoltaic, or solar electricity is a great way to reduce your dependence on utility power.

Solar Lanterns

  • Solar lanterns also known as solar lamp, is a lighting system composed of an LED/CFL lamp, solar panels, battery , charge controller. The lamp operates on electricity from batteries, charged through the use of solar photovoltaic panel.
  • Solar-powered household lighting can replace other light sources like candles or kerosene lamps. Solar lamps use renewable energy with infinity supply which is cheaper than standard lamps. In addition, solar lamps reduce health risk as kerosene lamps have a bad impact on human health.
  • WSE promotes Solar Invertors also.

Solar Lighting systems

WSE promotes Solar On grid power systems as a parallel system for ordinary power systems given by KSEB. On grid system helps a customer to minimize or to avoid the electricity bill. The customer can sell the electricity produced to KSEB or exchange it with KSEB and thereby get its price or reduction in electricity bill. A customer who install an on grid system, will get his investment back within a period of 3 to 5 years. As the normal life period of the system is 25 years, the rest period will be beneficial for him. WSE promotes off grid systems too.

Solar Home Light System utilizes sun energy to light up the homes and electric appliances.. Using solar product is a brilliant idea. These products are non polluting and lesser maintenance. It is very convenient and extremely green way of producing electricity.

Solar Water Heaters

Solar water heating (SWH) is the conversion of sunlight into renewable energy for water heating using solar thermal collector. Solar water heating systems comprise various technologies that are used worldwide increasingly.

In a "close-coupled" SWH system the storage tank is horizontally mounted immediately above the solar collectors on the roof. No pumping is required as the hot water naturally rises into the tank through thermosiphon flow. In a "pump-circulated" system the storage tank is ground- or floor-mounted and is below the level of the collectors; SWH systems are designed to deliver hot water for most of the year. However, in winter there sometimes may not be sufficient solar heat gain to deliver sufficient hot water.

Rainwater Harvesting Tanks

The organization is also supporting individual families and institutions for the construction of Rainwater Harvesting Structure in order to address the scarcity of water especially the drinking water. The organization has the expertise and technicians for the constructing 5000 liters capacity to one lakh litre or more capacity rainwater harvesting systems.

The department has constructed more than 12000 nos. of RWH tanks of different capacities to colleges, congregations, industrial houses, boarding houses, hostels, hotels, resorts and has a long list of satisfied customers. We are the accredited agency of Kerala Government for the Jalasauhruda vidyalayam project for constructing RWH tanks in Schools. WSE has associated with Malayala Manorama for their “Palathully” program in promotion of RWH Tanks.

As a part of this we promotes rain water recharging systems to enhance the ground water level and thereby reduce the scarcity of drinking water.

Composting systems

As a part of solid waste management practices, WSE promotes composting systems. We use inoculum in Bio bin composting and earth worms in vermin composting systems. We are the approved service provider of State Suchithwa mission for these systems. We have a mother hatchery for phytofagus earth worms for the program.

Improved smokeless ovens

Since 1987, as an official implementing partner of ANERT, WSE has been promoting the implementation of improved smokeless chulah program. It reduces the smoke in kitchen and the usage of firewood and enhances the efficiency of the chulah. We have constructed more than 29000 smokeless ovens so far.
